Since graduating from the University of Lethbridge in 2011, with a B.Sc in Biology and a B.Ed, I have been very busy around both the Chinook’s Edge and Rocky View School divisions. Although I did put in many hours on substitute teacher lists, I have been fortunate enough to secure a few temporary teaching contracts (mostly maternity leaves…)along the way. These include: Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs for spring 2012; George McDougall High School in Airdrie for April-June 2013, and a full school year at Spruce View School in 2013-2014.
It was during my time at Spruce View School that I was first introduced, and soon fully immersed in the idea of High School Redesign and Flexibility; and it is with great excitement that I get to carry my learning forward working with the team at Olds High School! Academically I work side by side with Mr. Clapp in the Green Quad, or Academic Team program, teaching the math and science 10, biology 20/30 and (new this year!) chemistry 20/30 courses. In addition to that, Mrs. Smith and I team teach Marine Biology, I assist Ms. Anderson with the choral program (I love to sing!) and I will be coaching Track and Field (especially the running events) again this year.
The past summer has been a busy one full of change! Joe and I welcomed our first child, Hazel Rose Clendinning, on April 4th 2016. We are very fortunate as she has been a great first baby (sleeping through the night from a month old) and has allowed us to transition easily into parenthood. It has been a lot of fun watching her grow and change over the past months and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing who she becomes. Currently her favourite thing to do is screech and giggle at the dogs, who have also transitioned well to her presence (thankfully). Although I know it will be a challenge to be away from her somedays, I am very happy to be back teaching and glad that Hazel is able to spend her days hanging out with grandma & grandpa on the farm.
As always I am very happy to be part of the Olds High School community and look forward to helping our students succeed. Please stop in and say hello whenever you’re around and never hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns!
